Gresik SEZ, JIIPE is expected to accelerate East Java's economic growth which contributes to the national economic growth index. On October 12, 2021, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a copper smelter owned by PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) in the Gresik SEZ (JIIPE) was held which was attended by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.
Within the JIIPE area, as a developer and manager of the Gresik Special Economic Zone (SEZ), it continues to develop operations in the form of power plants, clean water treatment, wastewater, and logistics activities at deep seaports.
Several industries have been operating and one of them is PT Freeport Indonesia, which is currently carrying out copper smelter construction work which is planned to start commercial operations at the end of 2023 or early 2024.
To support the electricity needs of PT Freeport Indonesia's copper smelter project in the Gresik SEZ (JIIPE), on March 14, 2022, two signings were carried out, namely the 170 MVA electricity purchase agreement from PLN and PT BKMS, for Freeport's copper smelter in the Gresik SEZ (JIIPE). , and the signing of a 170 MVA power purchase agreement between PT BKMS and Freeport for the Copper smelter in the Gresik SEZ (JIIPE).
The signing was carried out at the head office of PT PLN (Persero) Jakarta by the President Director of PLN, the President Director of PT BKMS, and the President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia.
Until the signing is carried out, the collaboration between PLN and the Gresik SEZ JIIPE, government support for the Gresik SEZ, and the construction of the PT Freeport Indonesia smelter will continue to be given to accelerate the development of the Gresik SEZ, so that it can continue to contribute to national economic growth in the future.
